Ni-63 Wipe Test

A ISO9978 wipe test: "source is wiped with swab or tissue moistened with ethanol or water and transferred activity is measured, pass <185Bq" this is achieved by collecting a sample at the Lonestar exhaust (see attachment).  We recommend to use a cotton swab and roll it around the inside of the 1/8” opening to obtain a sample.

In the US the Lonestar has a NRC exemption so does not require a regular leak test under state or federal laws (it is essentially treated by the end user as if it does not have a radioactive source, though we have to leak test and perform a full survey before shipping and we are inspected by the NRC to ensure the correct processes are followed).
